If, on second thought, you’d rather invest a bit of time and find your own little gems, here’s a short list of places to look for them.

Christmas Carols

christmas quotes 3Carols are a wonderful source of quotes for Advent and Christmas, particularly if you are planning to include them in presents, letters or greeting cards.
  • Many people know Christmas carols and recognize the quotes. It makes them feel good when they do.

  • Even if they don’t actually recognize the words, the style of the quotes will probably remind them of their childhood Christmases.

  • Most Christmas carols are very simple yet poetic. There is something timeless about them; a stillness, a sense of wonder. They open people’s hearts. So send someone a quote from a Christmas carol and put a smile on their face!

The Bible

"There has been only one Christmas—the rest are anniversaries."
(W.J. Cameron)

For the most original quotes for Christmas, you'll need to go to the Bible.

If, while reading, you come across a sentence or phrase that strikes a chord with you, write it down on a separate sheet of paper.

You’ll see whether it retains its glow outside the complete text, and would make an inspiring stand-alone Christmas quote.

Here are some relevant passages from the Gospel:
  • Matthew 1,18-25; 2,1-12
  • Luke 2.1-20

The Christian tradition has also related the following passages from the Prophets to Jesus:
  • Isaiah 9,2.6-7; 11,1-8; 40,1-5; 42,1-4

Christmas Quotes from the Christian Tradition

Almost Christmas Quotes

What to do with Christmas Quotes

  • Write or print one out, combine it with an inspiring, beautiful picture, and frame it.

  • Write a newsletter for family and friends and use a Christmas quote for the letterhead.

  • If you make place cards for a Christmas meal, put a quote on the inside or the back.

  • Stick your favorite Christmas quote on the fridge door.

  • Wrap your Christmas presents in plain kraft paper, give them a lush red bow and a luxurious, home-made gift tag each. Put the recipient’s name on one side of the tag, and on the other side ...
    ... yep, exactly.

  • Use a quote to make a special door sign for the room where the family assembles on Christmas morning.

  • If you have the time and inclination, stitch a quote on a Christmas table runner (or print/paint it on with fabric paints).

  • Collect 24 Christmas quotes, fold them up, put them into 24 matchboxes (add sweets, maybe), wrap the boxes nicely, and make someone special an Advent’s calendar.

There, that should keep you going for a while. And if you've got any more ideas ... give me a shout ... I’ll be very happy to include them here!
